Cave Art Center & Lascaux Cave Guided Tour
Why See the Lascaux Cave Paintings?
The cave paintings of Lascaux, located in the Périgord region, are known as the Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art due to the exceptional quality of their ancient paintings.
The original cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a true marvel. However, it’s been closed to the public since 1963 to help preserve its artwork.
With your ticket to the Lascaux IV International Center for Cave Art, you’ll discover the incredible prehistoric art that this area of France is famous for. The visit is divided into two parts. First, you’ll spend an hour exploring a precise replica of the Lascaux Cave with either a guide or an audio guide, depending on the option you select.
This faithful reproduction, which mirrors every detail of the original site, lets you admire one of the world’s most important archaeological treasures, featuring hundreds of prehistoric paintings and engravings.
After visiting the replica, you’ll have an hour and a half of free time to explore the rest of the center at your own pace:
- L'Atelier: enjoy the main panels in Lascaux, including augmented reality to explore its details
- The Theatre: discover 3 interconnected rooms showcasing the work of prehistorians, archaeologists, and researchers from the 19th century to today
- The Cinema: watch a projection about the original cave and other decorated caves in different parts of the world
- La Galerie de l'Imaginaire: visit a virtual art gallery linking prehistoric cave art with 20th-century art
- Immersion Room: discover the prehistoric times through an immersive show
Self-Guided Tour

- Guided tour: if you choose this option, you'll be accompanied by a guide who will show you the cave.
